Program Description:

SIT Study Abroad: Nepal: Geoscience in the Himalaya (Summer)

Undertake Earth science fieldwork in the spectacular Nepal Himalaya, one of the most active mountain ranges in the world. Learn to “read” rocks and study geology to understand past and present Earth processes. Trek from the rain-soaked south to the arid Tibetan Plateau, examining tectonics, earthquakes, and landslides. Explore hazard assessment, risk reduction, and engineering geology, while considering climate change and hydropower. Engage with Nepali faculty and geology students from Tribhuvan University during fieldwork across diverse Himalayan environments.

Please visit the SIT Study Abroad website for details on the program highlights and details of coursework, educational excursions, and housing.

HEAR FROM A FORMER STUDENT
"Being able to learn from Nepali professors with other American students, as well as Nepali students, provided an opportunity to learn that can’t be found in other settings. Everyone is very good about working together and learning from each other so that everyone's strengths can be taken advantage of for papers and projects."
