Program Description:

Georgia College undergraduate students who have submitted a complete application for a credit-bearing study abroad program may apply for the New Horizons Scholarship. Students applying for this scholarship will automatically be considered for the GC Study Abroad Scholarship. 

The New Horizons Study Abroad Scholarship is awarded to deserving members of student populations currently under-represented in study abroad at Georgia College. Students must belong to at least one of the following under-represented populations:
  • Students of color
  • Students registered with the GC Student Disability Resource Center
  • First-generation college students
  • Students suffering exceptional financial and/or other hardship(s)

Scholarship applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
  • Location: study abroad programs in lesser traveled to destinations
  • Duration: longer study abroad programs
  • Financial Need: demonstrated financial need
  • Essay: Essays that address questions of academic engagement, global and civic responsibility and have strong grammar, syntax and are well written
  • Cultural Elements: study abroad programs with greater opportunities for cultural immersion
  • GPA
